Dolph Ziggler Out With A Concussion

Here’s the full story:

World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler suffered a concussion at Tuesday night’s SmackDown taping at N.C. State when he interfered in Big E Langston’s bout with Jack Swagger. According to WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson, Ziggler was injured during the early part of the fracas after a blow to the face. A post-match examination by WWE medical staff confirmed the injury.

“He [was] having some memory difficulties and a bit of a headache … he definitely has a concussion,” said Sampson. “We’re checking him out, and going to be doing neuropsychological testing and just keep it monitored.”

Though clinically Ziggler’s concussion was confirmed, the tests – which should yield results within the next couple of days – will provide WWE medical officials with a “baseline” from which to monitor The Showoff’s clinical and neuropsychological progress as time passes. – WWE.com

If WWE played it smart, he’ll most likely miss out on Extreme Rules. But, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It is for us fans, but it shouldn’t affect the overall story and flow. Swagger vs. Del Rio would become a #1 Contenders match, and as soon as Dolph is healthy again, then he could have the title match. Probably 2-3 Raws later.

It’s definitely unfortunate, as we all know how serious concussions, but don’t think for a second they’d strip him of the title because of it.

Update: 8:24am ET

According to a source, there was talk earlier today about seeing if Vince McMahon wanted to pursue other options without Dolph Ziggler as World Heavyweight Champion after Ziggler suffered a legitimate concussion at last night’s SmackDown taping. Vince felt that it would be premature to go down that road today, and there are no plans to alter current storylines based on Ziggler’s concussion. This is reassuring. My prediction is we won’t hear anything definite until next week. And most likely, that will be that the match was changed to a #1 Contenders match between Swagger vs. Del Rio. The storyline out can use the concussion and blame it on those ladder shots by Swagger last week.

What do you think? Do you think they’ll take the title off of Dolph because of this?
